rick legrand - durango home builderRick LeGrand has had a long rewarding career as a skilled, experienced, informed and respected Durango home builder. His excellence in workmanship and business relations builds a foundation for beautifully crafted and a sustainable lifestyle for his clients, his business and for himself and his family.

After finishing a stint as an officer in the Army, stationed in Germany, in the late 60’s Rick became a climbing guide in Europe. Wanting a major in Geology he chose to settle in Durango to attend Ft. Lewis College. During that time he built and remodeled several houses and buildings and was the building supervisor for Cascade Village, near Durango Mountain Resorts.

Rick built his first spec house with Tom Grey, on Spring road in Durango in 1973. He took a few sojourns during the past 40 years to build in Boulder and Steamboat Springs. During a serious economic down- turn in Durango in the late 70’s, Rick returned to Philadelphia where he owned an architectural mill shop, specializing in historic restoration.

Growing up in the Philly area, the son of an engineer, Rick became a decorated Eagle Scout and spent much of his boyhood in the woods of the Adirondacks. His love for outdoor adventures is still a major theme in his life. He travels the world with his camera close in tow.

Rick lives with his wife, Mara, (writer and filmmaker) in a home he’s remodeled in Rafter J over the past 14 years. He’s often seen on the job sites and about town with his two Shitzus, Anabel & Mamiko.

While carrying on an industrious building business he is also an award winning landscape photographer. Visit Rick Legrand Photography. His amazing landscape photos hang on the walls of many of his clients homes.
